Time flies

I was still tiny the last time I posted here.  Sorry I've been away so long but my life has been very full of changes.  I am now 3 years old, still a beautiful double dapple chocolate mini with the same beautiful blue eyes.  I weigh about 11 pounds and stand a whole 7 inches tall (if I stand very straight).  I still love my Mom and the other 2 legger who lives with us.  She's the most fun 2 legger in the whole world.  She has no rules, believes absolutely in treats for no reason, can't go out of the house without bringing us back a new toy or new treat and will play chase till even we are tired.  The we I refer to still includes Pooh the Diva, my best friend Ranger moved to a new house with his dad (I call him plaid pants boy) but comes to visit once in a while and I go out to see him too.  But we have a new barker in our house.  His name is Ferguson but comes to the name Gussie.  He's a red long-haired miniature daschund with green eyes.  He's not quite 6 months old.  I love to play tug of war and chase with him but have to correct him when he does dumb stuff like try and sit in MY mom's lap or take MY food out of MY food bowl.  And of course, some of the toys belong to ME only and if he wants to play with MY toys he has to ask me very nicely or there will be lots of noise, some teeth displayed and a few moments of go away kid and stop bothering me.  I do have high hopes for little Gussie if he can just get my rules straight in his brain.  And if he would just get busy and grow out his beautiful coat.  Right now he has lots of crazy red hair growing on his ears and not too much anywhere else.  My mom says he looks like something called a Fraggle.

All grown up now

I've been so busy these past few months that I haven't kept up with my blog. Some of the highlights of my life up to 7 months are:

My mom had knee replacement surgery so I've been very busy taking care of her. Okay, so I haven't actually given her the anti-blood clot shots, but I've watched very carefully as they were given. But I have helped by tasting her meals in bed every day (I am particularly fond of the turkey, bacon, ham and cheese club sandwiches and have discovered a love of cream of tomato soup). And physical therapy? She has to work so hard not to fall over me or step on my tail whenever she gets out of bed that it adds at least 30 minutes of rehab time to her schedule every day. I also like to sit on her ankle while she does something called 'ankle pumps' so instead of lifting air she's lifting 8 pounds of Georgie! And weaving in and out of her ankles while she's trying to climb the stairs with her cane is terrific. That means instead of just concentrating on her feet and the cane she also has to watch out for my four paws. I'm sure that the more complicated the rehab process, the better. I am doing my best to complicate it as much as possible.

Then there's something called SNOW! I am not quite sure what causes it but I had a lot of fun digging in it. One day we had nearly 2 feet of snow in a single day and that was great. I could dig my holes and then swim through the stuff to another spot in the yard and fly out. I don't like it when the snow gets in my foot pads though...Mom really needs to get me a pair of Uggs (masculine ones of course). Maybe in a soft blue to match my eyes. I'm also hoping for a pair of doggles for the summer so my eyes don't get burned.

Today we watched a TV show on dogs and they showed some wiener dog races. I think I'll check the newspapers to see if there are going to be any wiener dog races close to where I live. I think it would be a lot of fun. The show mentioned that my breed is very stubborn, independent and hard to train. Gotta love it!

I've learned a couple of tricks....I roll over and wave my paws when someone says 'stick em up' and lift my paw for 'paw'. If it suits me I will come when called. Of course I know my name but it doesn't always suit me to come. Ssssshh don't tell Mom.

Oops gotta go...the other barkers are at the bedroom door wanting me to go rip up some paper. I love paper ripping. I also love chewing on plastic, stalking my squeak toys and eating pizza. Watching TV is good also, specially dog shows and cartoons.

My first vet visit

Yesterday was a big day. I had my first vet visit. Both my barker siblings went along as well. The Diva barker (her name I've learned is really Pooh) had an eye infection and the doctor really helped her by cleaning out her eye and giving her some medicine....she didn't like it and had to wear a muzzle (my mom said it was just like something called Lady and the Tramp and said something about a talking beaver) which I don't understand. The other barker (his name is Ranger) got some shots and had his nails trimmed. I got two shots, they took my temperature (that was different!) and also had my nails trimmed. The greatest things besides the car-ride, is that I got a treat for being so good. People food called bacon-cheese-burger. I love bacon-cheese-burgers!

The doctor said I am healthy, well formed and weigh four pounds.

Concerts are fun

I took a trip to Washington DC yesterday. This weekend is a holiday named Labor Day and my mom loaded me up in my carry-tote and we drove into Washington DC. We attended a concert on the West Lawn of the Capitol and got to hear the National Symphony Orchestra--ate a picnic dinner first, met a lot of nice people and dug some really great holes. Unfortunately it started to rain so the concert ended early but until then this little pup had a lot of fun.

A busy day

I got to take a trip today with my two-legged mom. My favorite stop was the petstore....I got steps to get onto the furniture, a soft blue bed with matching blanket and plush bone and some delicious puppy food.

I promised a picture and here is the latest.....I'm wearing the silly blue cape mom bought me and 'flying' on a skateboard.....

We're having an outdoor picnic for dinner. I hope someone drops a piece of burger for me.

Let me introduce myself

Bark.....hello.....bark. My name is George Augustus the First and I am a chocolate and tan dappled mini-dachshund puppy. I weigh about a pound and a half, am about 6 inches tall and not quite a foot long. (My name is bigger than I am right now.) I was born (or whelped in dog-speak) on June 16, 2009. I lived with my four-footed mom and my seven brothers till two weeks ago today when my new two-footed mom came to take me home with her. She says that she saw my picture on something called the 'internet' and fell in love with my blue eyes.

My new house and family are great. They already had two other barkers living with them and the barkers have been very nice to me so far...one of them keeps stealing my toys and eating my special puppy food but he also lets me nibble on his ears and he plays a great game of chase the puppy. I even get to chase him once in a while. The other barker is a little harder to get to know but I think she will be fun to play with when I get a little bit older. My mom says that she is something called a Diva. The other barkers also explained to me that the two-footers who take care of us are very nice and generous and they love to share their food with us. They showed me their special 'please feed me I am so hungry' faces and sure enough, I can get a piece of turkey or a slice of cheese every time I use it.

So far my life consists of lots of naps (I love crawling under the blankets for a long snooze) along with some very busy moments of chasing the ball, squeaking the furry elephant, running with the other barkers, and discovering all of the best hiding places in my new house. I am also learning about things called collars, leashes and puppy pads. The collar is okay, I really enjoy chewing on the leash and I'm still trying to understand what I'm supposed to do with the puppy pads. The other barkers have told me about a place we will visit when I get a bit older....its a dog park which I think is a big playground where the two-footers take their barkers so we can all play together.

My new family also has what they call a dog-run in their back yard and I guess we can all go outside without our leashes and run around back there. They even have a doggy swimming pool in the run. I don't know what that is but the other barkers say it's a lot of fun. I can't wait. Maybe I can go swimming soon!

My big news from the last few days is that I've learned to climb the steps. I can't go down them yet, but running up the steps and barking for my mom to come and get me is a game I could play all day. I don't think she likes the game too much, but I think it's great. When mom is trying to get ready for work and is downstairs making her lunch, I can keep her home with me for a long time by running up the stairs and making her chase me. I've also discovered my barker and even though it scared me at first, I LOVE to bark now. The other barkers in the house have really loud scary barks but they tell me they just bark because it's fun not because they want to scare any body.

More barking soon. Time for me to take a nap....I've been awake for about 20 minutes and I am so sleepy. Nite nite. Maybe Mom will put some pictures of me on my blog soon.
