Let me introduce myself

Bark.....hello.....bark. My name is George Augustus the First and I am a chocolate and tan dappled mini-dachshund puppy. I weigh about a pound and a half, am about 6 inches tall and not quite a foot long. (My name is bigger than I am right now.) I was born (or whelped in dog-speak) on June 16, 2009. I lived with my four-footed mom and my seven brothers till two weeks ago today when my new two-footed mom came to take me home with her. She says that she saw my picture on something called the 'internet' and fell in love with my blue eyes.

My new house and family are great. They already had two other barkers living with them and the barkers have been very nice to me so far...one of them keeps stealing my toys and eating my special puppy food but he also lets me nibble on his ears and he plays a great game of chase the puppy. I even get to chase him once in a while. The other barker is a little harder to get to know but I think she will be fun to play with when I get a little bit older. My mom says that she is something called a Diva. The other barkers also explained to me that the two-footers who take care of us are very nice and generous and they love to share their food with us. They showed me their special 'please feed me I am so hungry' faces and sure enough, I can get a piece of turkey or a slice of cheese every time I use it.

So far my life consists of lots of naps (I love crawling under the blankets for a long snooze) along with some very busy moments of chasing the ball, squeaking the furry elephant, running with the other barkers, and discovering all of the best hiding places in my new house. I am also learning about things called collars, leashes and puppy pads. The collar is okay, I really enjoy chewing on the leash and I'm still trying to understand what I'm supposed to do with the puppy pads. The other barkers have told me about a place we will visit when I get a bit older....its a dog park which I think is a big playground where the two-footers take their barkers so we can all play together.

My new family also has what they call a dog-run in their back yard and I guess we can all go outside without our leashes and run around back there. They even have a doggy swimming pool in the run. I don't know what that is but the other barkers say it's a lot of fun. I can't wait. Maybe I can go swimming soon!

My big news from the last few days is that I've learned to climb the steps. I can't go down them yet, but running up the steps and barking for my mom to come and get me is a game I could play all day. I don't think she likes the game too much, but I think it's great. When mom is trying to get ready for work and is downstairs making her lunch, I can keep her home with me for a long time by running up the stairs and making her chase me. I've also discovered my barker and even though it scared me at first, I LOVE to bark now. The other barkers in the house have really loud scary barks but they tell me they just bark because it's fun not because they want to scare any body.

More barking soon. Time for me to take a nap....I've been awake for about 20 minutes and I am so sleepy. Nite nite. Maybe Mom will put some pictures of me on my blog soon.
